It is very important to remember that the people you work with, no matter whether they sit next to you or thousands of miles away, are people just like you. They have hopes, dreams, families, day to day needs, etc. etc. Often it can be easy to say, “Oh those Softwarestania guys just cannot do the work as well as we can.” This line of thinking can dehumanize these people into mere resources that can be taken advantage of.
Sure there are many generalizations that can be made about a people and I do it often, but those generalizations must be made in a constructive way. They must be made for the purpose of creating a frame of reference, from which you can begin to readily communicate with each other. Using this frame of reference, you can abstract it and have a head start on understanding each new team member from Softwarestania.
The bottom line is that these generalizations are inevitable, can be very useful, and, most importantly, must be used for the purposes of working together and not for denigrating any people or group.
Simply remember the golden rule - do unto others as you would have them do unto you - and you and your projects will be fine.
